Attending a Narcan training held by Elvis Rosado at Prevention Point, helped me understand in depth the severity of how drug addiction has affected the Philadelphia community. Before the training, I was not aware of how fentanyl can make its way into people’s system and sometimes it does not involve heroin. People can ingest fentanyl through K2, which has become common in the community in the recent years.

After listening to Rosado’s training, I realized that an overdose can really happen anywhere at anytime. I’m now aware of how it works and how it affects the brain. I didn’t know that Narcan blocked the opiates receptors for about two hours of Narcan administration, that’s why it is important to attempt to converse with a person after they have been given Narcan after an overdose.
