Our class had the pleasure of listening to Andrea Wenzel speak on her experience in the journalism field. She has quite the resume and has traveled all over the world. It was interesting to hear all the places she has gone and the enjoyment she got out of meeting new people as well as learn about their culture. She taught us about solutions journalism and what it means to her. Andrea also discussed the benefits solutions journalism can bring to our community.

Some of the most interesting topics she discussed were about the listening post and the positive feedback it can have on a community. It invites people to share their thoughts on a story. It also encourages people to ask questions. She expressed that for people to be engaged in your content, you have to be engaged back. The biggest thing that I took away from Andrea’s experience is that solutions journalism can build trust with the community. What a great way to bring positive light towards the journalism field. Solutions journalism is something I will definitely continue to practice.
