It was great having Aubrey Whelan talk to the class about her experience covering the opioid crisis. I like that she brought up how it’s important to focus on other neighborhoods in the city outside of Kensington even though it’s most visible there. Also, she really drove home the point of solutions journalism and writing stories that serve a purpose.
It’s great hearing another journalist’s process, especially getting Aubrey’s advice on how to discuss people’s personal stories. It was helpful to hear how she finds her story ideas too. I followed a few hard-reduction folks on Twitter after her visit.
