On Tuesday, Fred Way, the Executive Director from PARR, came to talk about recovery housing. I found it interesting because I did not know the details behind these houses and what it takes to get them up and running. Also, it really surprised me that people can support these housing but once they find out that they are recovery houses, they immediately want the place to shut down. It kind of adds to the overall theme I have begun to notice within guest speakers of this course, that people want to help but they do not want the help to be given anywhere near them or their houses.
Way also talked about Father/Son recovery housing and the lack there of. This is so important in my opinion because the lack of these types of houses kind of gives off a gender bias vibe within the community because we only provide support to single struggling mothers, not fathers. This is something I 100% want to explore in the future because these fathers need help too.
