Carol Rostucher, the president of the organization Angels in Motion, spoke to our Solutions Journalism: Covering Addiction class on Tuesday. Three years ago, Rostucher started the organization, which now has 150 active volunteers who work on the streets of Kensington. Funded by donations, Angels in Motions has a certified recovery specialist and helps people access treatment, despite barriers like empty beds or needing an ID to enter a facility.
Rostucher was inspired to start the organization while searching Kensington for her 28-year-old son, who is now in recovery. She said she invited her son into her home for meals and showers, and he would often bring people with him. While talking to her son’s friends and people who were on the streets in Kensington, she realized that she could help other people by organizing an on-the-ground outreach effort.
