Carol Rostucher, the president of Angels in Motion, spoke today about her organization, which helps people with addiction access treatment. Angels in Motion has about 150 volunteers in Kensington who help people get identification or find housing.

Something Rostucher touched upon that I thought was really interesting were the officers in Kensington who volunteered to patrol the area specifically to help people with addiction. Rostucher said she answered a call from an officer who had waited for Project HOME to help someone with addiction who was homeless. She was surprised that he had stayed with the person, and not just leave him by the side of the road. This will definitely be an important thing for me to touch upon in my story. Was it an initiative directly from those officers, or was PPD behind the idea? It’ll be important to work in the history of policing addiction into my story alongside this new method of policing and helping people with addiction.
